Hitting greens is the name of the game. There are many different parameters that come to a custom golf iron. Loft, lie, club weight, and swing weight are just a few. Shaft manufacturers have tolerances like in any business. This can be a good thing but also a bad issue. When getting your clubs built by an OEM; they are not weighing each individual shaft and grip to make sure they are the same weight. This is something that we do in the custom building industry. By taking the extra time to weight sort the shafts and the grips that will go into your build, I can ensure a constant weight and a consent feel across all of your irons. This will bring more confidence everytime you pull an iron out of your bag.

Just like the driver your irons shafts can be manipulated to play and feel a certain way depending on the player. Just like in the driver, builders have the ability to tip shafts. We also have the ability to frequency match and either soft step or hard step your iron shafts to give the player the perfect feel. The frequency of a shaft is how fast or slow a shaft vibrates and returns to a static position. The higher the frequency number, the stiffer the shaft is. The terms soft stepping or hard stepping refer to what shaft is going to be installed into which club head. Normally the 7 iron shaft will go into the 7 iron head. If a builder were to soft step a club then the 6 iron shaft would go into the 7 iron head. Hard stepping is the exact opposite, 8 iron shaft into a 7 iron head. This allows builders to build clubs either slightly softer or slightly stiffer depending on the player. If a player was fit into a “stiff” shaft, soft stepping would make the shaft play more like a “stiff minus” or slightly softer and hard stepping would make the shaft play more like a “stiff plus” or slightly stiffer than the original shaft. Having your irons custom built for your game can help you hit the shot you were intending and hit more greens.
